MINEOLA -- A 19-year-old Mineola man is dead following a shooting stemming from an argument at a local convenience store.

Mineola Police released information this morning about the incident that occurred late Sunday night at the EZ Mart located at 115 N. Pacific St.

Police said Christopher James Griffin and Jason Russell Walters, 41, got into a verbal altercation inside the store and decided to take their problem out back to settle the dispute.

"Upon arrival, officers observed a black male lying in the alley with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the neck. A white male was also observed on the scene holding a handgun," a statement reads.

The press release also said Griffin was transported from the scene via helicopter, but succumbed to his injuries before arriving.

Walters has been charged with the death of Griffin, and is behind bars in the Wood County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
