A former Tyler pharmacist has pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child and is now awaiting sentencing.

Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham said James Carie Prosperie entered the plea Monday in Judge Jack Skeen's court.

Prosperie was arrested in September at his home on Jeff Davis Drive after a short standoff with police, who were armed with a warrant for the sexual assault charge.

Sentencing in the case has been set for May 8 at 9:30 a.m.
