Tyler police are investigating the armed robbery of a Tyler cab driver early Monday.

Police responded to the 3900 block of Troup Highway to find the cab driver, who told officers he was approached by a black man with a chrome semi-automatic handgun.

The driver told police that he had just bought food at a Taco Bell and drove next door behind an oil change business to eat his lunch, when the man demanded the driver get out of the vehicle and hand over his property, including the keys to the cab.

The robber — described as being in his mid-20s, 5-foot-8, weighing 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes — fled the scene on foot west on Lindbergh Street. The driver also told police that the man was wearing a blue and white bandana around his neck, a tight blue shirt and blue jean shorts.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case or the robber, to call Tyler Police at 903-531-1000 or Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833).
