Everyone’s favorite upside-down fairytale is coming to the Texas Theater in Palestine.
Palestine Community Theatre’s version of the Broadway hit “Shrek The Musical,” a song-and dance-filled stage adaptation of the DreamWorks animated film, will open Thursday and run for two weekends.
Director Chaundra Dantin, who also plays Fiona, recreated the play’s fantasy Kingdom of Far Far Away.
Instead of a knight in shining armor riding a noble steed, the hero is Shrek, a swamp-dwelling ogre, played by Doug Smith, who teams with a chatterbox donkey, played by Larry Weber.
The duo is on a mission from Lord Farquaad, played by James Hampton, to save Princess Fiona from the dragon-guarded tower.
Other fairytale misfits adding surprises are Pinocchio, Gingy, the Big Bad Wolf, the Three Little Pigs, the Wicked Witch, Peter Pan, the Pied Piper and many more characters you will recognize.
“PCT has been preparing for this show since last year. This entertaining, family-friendly show features a terrific score, spectacular costumes, dance numbers and comedy,” Texas Theater Marketing Director Dana Goolsby said.
“We’ve been getting calls for several weeks from all over the state about tickets. Therefore, we want to encourage everyone who wants to see the show to purchase their tickets in advance.”
