The Tyler Museum of Art announced the winning entries in the 10th Annual High School Art Exhibition during its opening reception and awards ceremony Sunday at the museum.An overall “Best in Show” winner plus four “Merit of Honor” recipients were selected from among more than 50 entries by senior-level art students representing All Saints Episcopal School, Bishop Gorman Regional Catholic School, Hallsville High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Whitehouse High School and Winona High School.
Story Sasseen, a senior at Hallsville High School under the instruction of art teacher Jeannie Davis, took “Best in Show” honors for her Prismacolor work titled Genesis at Sunday’s ceremony.
The “Best in Show” winner “received a $100 gift certificate from Dick Blick Art Materials, with “Merit of Honor” winners receiving $50 gift cards. All participating artists received Certificates of Participation as well as complimentary one-year student memberships to the Museum. Winning entries were selected by a panel of three professional artists and art professors in a “blind” judging format; panelists were provided with neither the names of the artists nor the schools they represented during the judging process.
The 10th-annual High School Art Exhibition will be on display through March 9 at the TMA. Visitors have the opportunity to cast votes for their favorites in the annual Viewers’ Choice Award to be presented at the exhibition’s conclusion. Voting must be conducted in person, and ballots are available at the Visitor Services desk in the TMA lobby. Regular hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
