What’s new on the silver screen this weekend? Take a look.

“2 Guns”

What’s it about? A DEA agent (Denzel Washington) and a Naval intelligence officer (Mark Wahlberg) go on the run after they botch an attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. Neither knows the other is an undercover agent. Action and hilarity ensues.

Will it be good? I hope so. Buddy cop action/comedies are sort of rare these days and people tend to forget just how funny Mark Whalberg can be. Washington also really, really needs to be in more comedies. Advance word of mouth on this really solid.

Rated R for for violence throughout, language and brief nudity.

“The Smurfs 2”

What’s it about? Does it really matter? Chances are, if you’re going to this it’s because your kids are dragging you there and you’ll end up taking a 90 minute nap.

Will it be good? Almost certainly not.

Rated PG for some rude humor and action.

“Before Midnight”

What’s it about? We continue to observe the ever-evolving relationship between lovers Jesse and Celine. We catch up with them nine years after we last saw them Paris.

Will it be good? I’m kind of cheating here. I reviewed “Before Midnight” when it opened a couple months ago and loved it. For some reason it’s come back to Tyler and I simply must go see it again. It’s a wonderful and honest film. While it can be enjoyed not having seen the previous films, “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset,” watching this one with all the context of them makes it all the better.

Rated R for sexual content/nudity and language.
