Longview: The Great Texas Balloon Race starts Monday

The Great Texas Balloon Race, a series of competitions involving hot air balloon pilots, begins on Monday and continues through Aug. 3 at East Texas Regional Airport near Longview.

Launch and landing sites change each day and are determined by wind and the weather.

Special events, including a balloon glow, children’s activities area and country music concerts, are set for the evenings of Aug. 1 and 2 at the airport.

Advance tickets, to the evening activities, are available at area Brookshire’s and Super1Foods stores and on the website outhousetickets.com. Advance tickets cost $12. Tickets at the gate both days will cost $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free.

– 6:30 a.m.: flights over Longview


– 7 p.m.: events at Driller Park, Kilgore

– 4 p.m.: gates re-open at airport

– 8:15 p.m.: Special Shapes Spectacular

– 8:50 p.m.: Balloon Glow

– 9:30 p.m.: concert

– 5:45 a.m.: gates open at airport
