Tyler Civic Theatre is continuing its performances of “Hairspray: The Musical.”
Show times are 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and July 24-26 and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and July 27 at the theater, 400 South Park Drive.
“Hairspray” is based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name about a teenage girl’s efforts to integrate the all-white, TV dance show she performs on. “Hairspray” deals with topics such as race relations, body image, ambition and changing American society.
Emily Hinkie plays the dance happy Tracy Turnblad; Roger Pharr plays her mother, Edna (a part traditionally played by a man); and Walker Delk is Link Larkin.
Other principal roles are being played by Emily Rohrman, Bryant Huey, Zach Hughes, Amanda Spangler, Sarah Smith and Stephen Rainwater
Justin Purser and Rainwater are the directors, Grace Johnson is the musical director and Shelby Anderson is the choreographer.
