TJC's singing group to perform a musical revue of show tunes

“Broadway Blast,” a free musical revue by Tyler Junior College’s pop singing group Harmony & Understanding, will take place 7:30 tonight in the college’s Wise Auditorium.

Selections include numbers from “Gypsy,” a collection of tunes from “Sondheim: A Celebration,” and a medley from the musical “Hairspray,” said information from the college.

High school choirs that participated in a show choir festival held at TJC earlier in the day will take part in the final number, “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from “Hairspray.”

Harmony & Understanding members and their hometowns are: Taylor Chapman, Forney; Irene Duran, Jacksonville; Adam Jimenez, Canton; Johanna Ramsey, Winnsboro; Justin Redmond, Red Oak; Kashyra Thompson, Texarkana; and Michaela Ellis; Maya Foster; Jamichael Kilson; Erin O’Quinn; and Nicholas Sheffield, all of Tyler

Andrea Trent, group director and TJC professor, is the musical director for the show and Heather Samuelson is the choreography. Brandon Elliott serves as sound technician.

TJC Alumni Association will host a reception for the Harmony & Understanding alumni group, Harmony in Wise Art Gallery, 30 minutes prior to the show.
