VIDEO: One instance in which it is NOT good to wear green on St. Patrick's Day

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and one of the time-honored traditions of the holiday which celebrates the Irish patron saint is to wear green clothing.

And today at the Tyler Morning Telegraph and TylerPaper.com, many of the employees got into the spirit of the day

While it makes for a fun discussion topic around the office, it drives our video crew nuts! Why? Because when they shoot segments like this, they use a chromakey background, also known as a green screen.

Video editing software takes whatever portions of the video frame are in green and replaces them with a background image. Normally, wearing green when you’re on camera is a no-no — for reasons that might seem apparent as you’re watching this.

As you’re watching this, whatever item of clothing I and the others who are part of this segment are wearing will show up as part of the background. That can make for fun images, unless you are the video crew.

So from all of us at the Tyler Morning Telegraph and TylerPaper.com, Happy St. Patrick’s Day — and don’t wear green on camera.
