Born February 3 and named, Robin H. Butt, he has loved music since he was old enough to listen. He knew he would eventually end up on the radio playing music. That’s just what he has done, working at several radio stations as a beloved DJ, such as the Sunday Show on KYYK 98.3, playing young country in the 90s and being the king of live remotes with Classic Rock 96.1 Radio. Robin’s deep voice, ear for sound and love for music made this career path a perfect fit.

Robin came to East Texas from Austin. Radio doesn’t pay real good so, with his personality and local popularity he gained side gigs at events coordinating the music. In a play off his name everyone called him “Boogie Butt.” In 1987, Robin decided to launch Boogie Butt Productions and for over 27 years he has been the go-to guy for event music.

Whether it’s professional entertainment from national to local bands, sound, lighting, casino parties, private and corporate functions, he can handle it all. His hands-on approach, careful planning and attention to detail have made the difference for hundreds of event planners, from weddings to company parties. Robin knows that the quality of the entertainment often determines the success of your event. When Boogie Butt Productions is in the house, you can rest assured that you’re about to have fun.

It doesn’t really matter what the event is, he has you covered. He can mix whatever you like, and if you don’t know what you like, he will work with you to make your party the event of the year. Anything, from house music, techno, upbeat, groovy or bouncing he knows how to get the party started and keep it vibing strong. Having fun is fun work. Making each event environment magical with music and lights is what he does well.

You can tell Robin loves what he does and is doing what he loves. It is not easy sequencing play lists together for different groups of people. Some want country, some want rock, some want to dance, some want to sing. Each event is different, so the job never gets boring. Boogie loves to work the crowd as he talks to them in preparation for the next song. He keeps their spirits up and atmosphere in party mode. He actually gets them hooked on listening to the music.

You can meet Robin every Thursday Night (about 7:30 p.m.) for karaoke at Fat Catz Louisiana Kitchen, Friday nights at Tyler’s Iron Horse Saloon, and sometimes at Jake’s Tyler on the rooftop chaveta. You can tell he likes to push the boundaries of the crowd. He can find songs you haven’t thought about in years to awaken good memories in people, light up their faces and make them want to dance or sing. I’ve seen him in just about every event around and he always takes the challenge and makes fun happen. He knows how to keep people and music interactive.

Robin’s heart is as big as his personality, too. He has helped to raise thousands of dollars over the years for numerous charitable organizations. Robin loves to give back and be involved with the community. Robin believes strongly in working together for the benefits of all. Church and family is a very important part of his life as well. Living in Jacksonville, he is married to Candy Woods, giving her a fun last name to go with her fun first name.

Being a DJ is an ever-evolving career path with today’s technology, but you will not be able to find many personalities to make your event pop, like Robin “Boogie Butt” can.
