Check out Salon Verve’s “Meet the Artist” event with Russell Belue,” a unique art show, with live music and catering, held in a hair salon every six weeks. You will be amazed at the local talent that is displayed in each show.
Step into Salon Verve and you instantly feel like you have stepped off 6th Street in Austin or Bourbon Street in New Orleans. It’s a hair salon like you have never seen in the world. There are no pictures of hair everywhere and it is definitely a more relaxed atmosphere, very non-commercial. The name “Salon Verve” means “a creative, artistically-spirited salon” and that is an ideal it truly lives up to. Not only have they just been voted Best Hair Salon for 2013 under the direction of owner/color specialist Evette Tritt, but they include local artists’ paintings on their walls every six weeks.
The salon is holding a show this Saturday night from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring works by Russell Belue. Russell grew up in Tyler. He graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in 1989 and went to art school at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He knew he wanted to paint as a teenager, so, selecting a major was easy. After his third year, he dropped out of art school and moved out west, eventually finishing his degree in studio art and art history at the College of Santa Fe. Russell will also tell you most everything he has ever learned worthwhile about art has been the experience of living the life of a painter. Painting is an adventure for him, he says, and he never really knows how the art will evolve, technically nor conceptually.
“A painter paints whether it’s a good day to paint or not, and some days it’s hard, like anything that involves being true to oneself,” he said.
The paintings in this show are diverse chronologically, conceptually and technically, but they all speak of his love for the harmonic and dissonant relationships of color, much like the notes or chords of a song. All art work is for sale.
Not only will you get to speak with Russell about his work, but you will get to taste catered, healthy treats from local restaurateur Kandi Hilliard of Culinary Crossroads. You will also hear live music by local musician Mark Beavers. There will be door prizes provided by local businesses and a drawing for those who attend the event. This is a great networking event to meet new people who do business here and around the great city of Tyler. It’s a fun time to be had by all every 6 weeks and is open to the public. Bring a friend and meet some new friends too. Check the event out on Salon Verve’s Facebook page.
